If you’re a bride-to-be or even the mother of the bride or grandmother of the bride, I’m sure you realize the inherent complexities involved with planning a wedding. There are many, many things to consider, including the selection of your wedding album. I know, I know – there are SO many wedding elements to account for that the selection of the album might seem like a lower priority. But in my opinion this is simply not the case.
Conversely, while the memories of the ceremony and the reception will gradually fade over the years, your wedding album will become a permanent record of the big day, one that will be seen by many pairs of eyes over multiple generations. Therefore, because of the album’s relative permanency, it’s a decision that should clearly not be taken lightly. Trust me, your grandkids will really enjoy seeing the younger versions of ole’ grandma and grandpa! Don’t take that joy away from them and other future generations by foregoing the wedding album.
The great thing about wedding albums is that they truly tell a story – if done properly, the photos in the album can truly capture the emotion and grandeur of the day. As such, you’ll want to make sure you select the best wedding pictures for inclusion, and also that the order of the presentation of the pictures in the album is chronological and makes sense.
It can be helpful to solicit feedback from the photographer as you select the photos for inclusion, or better yet – have the photographer create a preliminary ‘story’ for your feedback and/or approval. The reason is that professional photographers are usually adept at selecting and editing images, and since most weddings produce 500-1000 photos yet you’ll only need a maximum of 100 for the album, this is a skill that can really help ease the entire process.
Finally, you’ll want to make sure that the actual album cover you choose is elegant and durable. This is critical because, as I’ve already stated, the wedding album will be viewed for decades to come. Therefore you will want it to not only last, but also to look beautiful for as long as possible. There are many high-quality options available – too many to list here. So again, the best advice is to consult with your photographer.
The bottom line is that your wedding album is something that will enable future generations to relive your big day, and as such it’s just plain stupid to forego this critical element. Wedding albums will preserve your history, and in my humble opinion, that is extremely important!
