No day is more special to a grandmother than the day her granddaughter gets married. You want to make sure you look your best for this special occasion. So how should you choose what you’re going to wear? Here are five qualities to look for in a grandmother of the bride dress:
1. Does it fit the setting?
You are going to want to wear a very different outfit to an outdoor summer wedding than you would wear to an indoor winter wedding. Is the wedding going to be in a church, or some other location? When choosing a dress, think about whether that dress will match the background. You don’t want to look out of place.
2. Does it go with the color scheme?
Does your granddaughter have a color scheme for her wedding? If so, you need to make sure that whatever you are wearing fits with that color scheme. Even if purple isn’t necessarily your color, you can still make it work. Find a neutral dress and add a pop of color in a scarf or a hat.
3. Is it age appropriate?
This one is common sense. You want to look your best, but you also don’t want to look like you are trying to pull off a dress that isn’t made for someone your age.
4. Is it modern?
That being said, you also want to wear something that looks contemporary. Don’t pull something out of your closet from 10 or 20 years ago and assume that it will be a good choice. Style is constantly changing, and you don’t want to look like you’re stuck in the past.
5. Is it too showy, or is it just right?
This is your granddaughter’s day. You don’t want to steal the show away from her. Make sure you choose an outfit that will make you look your best, but one that doesn’t stand out too much.
When in doubt, it’s perfectly OK to ask your granddaughter whether your outfit is appropriate for her wedding. After all, this is her day, and you want her to be happy.
