Outdoor weddings are beautiful occasions. The scenery is romantic, and the event is sure to be unforgettable. But choosing an outfit for an outdoor wedding might be trickier than choosing one for an indoor wedding. When choosing mother of the bride dresses or mother of the groom dresses, be sure to consider the following factors:
Dress code
The dress code for an outdoor wedding might be less formal than the dress code for an indoor wedding. Ask your son or daughter how formal your mother of the bride or mother of the groom dress should be. Beach weddings, in particular, might call for a more bohemian dress code, but the decision is up to the couple getting married.
Temperature
If the wedding is going to be in the summer, be sure to choose a dress that is not too hot. Short sleeves and a loose fitting skirt might be a good idea. If the wedding is going to be in the spring or in the fall, when it might be cooler, a long-sleeved dress might be a better choice. A nice pantsuit is also an option for cooler temperatures.
If you are unsure what the temperature will be, because the wedding is at a time of year or in a location where the temperature fluctuates, find a shawl or jacket that matches your dress, so you have an extra layer in case you are cold. A jacket is also a good idea if the wedding will stretch from afternoon to evening, and you might be chilly when the sun sets.
Location
Think about whether your mother of the bride dress or mother of the groom dress will work with the scenery, aesthetically and practically. Ask yourself: “Will this dress look good with a beach or a garden in the background?” Practically speaking, if the wedding is on a beach, it might be too windy to wear a loose, voluminous skirt. And if the wedding is on the sand or grass, flat shoes are definitely better than heels.
