Inspiration for Exquisite Wedding Escort Cards!

Mason Jar Escort CardsOne of the most overlooked aspects of wedding planning relates to designing the escort cards and figuring out the seating chart.  Yes I agree that other elements of the wedding – like booking the church and reception hall, finding the perfect wedding dress, coordinating the bridesmaids, etc. – should take precedence, the escort cards and seating chart are more important than most people think.  Thus, avoid putting this off until the last possible minute.

The main reason it’s critical to get a jump start on this is that the actual design of the escort cards will definitely require some thought, as you will want them to look classy as well as match your wedding theme (if applicable).

Plus, deciding on the seating arrangements can be more difficult than you’d think because inevitably, there will be a handful of people who will be difficult to place.  This is not quite as difficult as finalizing your wedding guest list, but it’s no walk in the park, either.

Map inspired seating chartIf you need some design inspiration on escort cards and seating charts, I found some great photos that I’m hoping will get your creative juices flowing.  In terms of escort cards, these photos show such great ideas as affixing the cards to branches like leaves, creating table napkin tags, using bird cutouts that dangle from ribbons, using candle- or treat-filled mason jars (which can also double as the wedding favors), and creating vintage escort cards out of old typewriter keys or cassette tapes.  Seating chart ideas include a map-inspired chart, an airline schedule-inspired chart, and a family tree chart.  To view the complete photo gallery, click here.

I hope I’ve convinced you that your escort cards and seating chart arrangements are not to be taken lightly.  I also hope that I’ve helped inspire you to be creative with these things.

The bottom line is that these are elements of your wedding that will contribute to its overall ambiance. Thus, give it some thought and create a design that is elegant and matches the overall aesthetic attributes of your reception.  And whatever you do, please DO NOT wait until the 11th hour to start thinking about this.  Good luck!
