In this economy, saving money is paramount, and one of the best ways to save money on projects is to DIY – or, do-it-yourself. As such, for today’s post I thought it would be helpful to share a terrific video that discusses numerous tips to save money on your wedding by going the DIY route. The video is only 3 minutes long but it’s packed with tips and tidbits, so I highly recommend you watch it right now. But if you prefer to read the tips, I’ve summarized the important ones below for your convenience.
One of the easiest things to do is to create your own ‘save the date’ cards and wedding invitations. You can easily take plain cardstock, get envelopes and use your color printer to create the designs. These can further be embellished any way you want – from glitter to stickers to ribbons.
Another DIY idea is the wedding favors. If you are artistic or like crafts, there are probably many things you can come up with that won’t take too long to create. Even the boxes for your favors can be hand-made and decorated with that personal touch. Alternatively, you could forego the favors and give a welcome box or bag to your out-of-town guests instead. These too are easy to put together with a little creativity and personal touch.
Of course, if you’re really ambitious you could also handle the wedding flowers yourself. This could include bridesmaid bouquets, the bridal bouquet, the centerpieces and the floral arrangements. The video shows the proper way to cut, assemble, bind and care for the flowers in the days leading up to the wedding. It also shows how to wrap the flowers with bows and ribbons for a truly elegant and professional look.
Another place to save money by doing it yourself is your beauty regimen. Set up a consultation with a makeup artist who can give you a lesson, along with a face chart that lays everything out for you, and then when she is done applying the makeup take a photo of the finished product. This will allow you to recreate the look on the big day with ease. You can do the same type of thing for your hairstyle as well.
So, there you have it – lots of great ideas for DIY wedding savings! And the best part of all of these ideas is that you do not have to do them yourself. Recruit the bridesmaids, mother of the bride, family and friends. Make it a party, and have fun too!
